Big Apple!
Barry Molina was awakened in late August with the happy news that he was going to New York City for the year to attend the New York City Ballet's training school, School of American Ballet. Many of us were expecting the news, as he had been offered a position during the summer at the school with a full tuition scholarship. But until a place at the dormatory opened up yesterday, we weren't sure housing would be found. Barry already has his ticket and plans to fly out on September 4th. He'll be attending a public school with which SAB has arrangements which allow the students to come and go as needed in order to make their ballet classes a priority.
For
those of you not familiar with the ballet world, New York City Ballet
was founded in the 1950s by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirsten. It
currently has about 120 members, making it one of the largest and best-funded companies
in the world. This opportunity is huge in that it puts Barry in a prime spot to hopefully become a company member. So huge congrats to you, Barry, and to your parents for their support. Thank yous also to the many parents who helped drive Barry to and from classes, and especially to the Hovey family for warmly sharing their home with him this past year so that he could continue to take classes and perform with us.
Hip, hip, hooray. We'll miss you!
