Preparatory Division

Thoughtfully-designed classes for young children that cultivate foundational skills and musicality, while instilling appreciation and curiosity for the art of ballet

The weekly 45 minute ballet class introduces young children to coordination, musicality, and basic movement concepts through playful dance sequences and creative exercises.

A weekly one hour ballet class that cultivates excitement for ballet, while building the coordination, musicality, focus, and foundational skills needed to transition into Division I.
Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30PM

Ages 8-18
Vaganova-based ballet training takes dancers from foundational technique to pre-professional preparation, while developing an appreciation for other dance forms.

If the student is returning to St. Croix Ballet and has a level placement:
Make a StudioPro account by creating username and password.
Add the parent’s and student’s information.
Register for the dancer’s level.
Add a payment method.

For new students, enrolling in Levels A and above, we will need a little more information about the dancer to assess what level would be best for them. Therefore, email us prior to enrolling with the dancer’s name, age, and dance experience and we will schedule a required free placement class.
Students enrolling in Pre-Ballet do not need a placement class and may enroll directly through the steps for returning students.

Prior to enrolling in Levels A and above for the first time, we will need more information about the dancer to assess what level would be the best fit for them. Therefore, email us before enrolling with the dancer’s name, age, and experience and we will schedule a free placement class.

All payments are made by ACH withdrawal or credit card (3% transaction fee applies to credit card) through the StudioPro platform.
In addition to tuition, a registration fee is due annually for each student at the beginning of the school year and can be made through the StudioPro platform.
Families with more than one student receive a 10% discount on tuition. Contact us at stcroixballet@gmail.com for more information about this discount.

Students are placed in levels based on age, experience, and development level to ensure they progress through the curriculum. Students may stay in one level for more than one year.
A free placement class is required for new students enrolling in Levels A and above. To schedule the placement class, contact us at stcroixballet@gmail.com.

Students are expected to attend all of their scheduled weekly classes. For their safety, dancers arriving late may be asked to observe class.
Caregivers should email us at stcroixballet@gmail.com as soon as possible if the student will be absent.
Caregivers must pick up dancers immediately after the dancer’s scheduled class. Caregivers who are more than 10 minutes late after the last class of the day will be charged $1/per minute late, payable by check or cash to the staff member who waited with the student.

Students will receive more information about required attire and materials upon enrollment.

Once enrolled, students will receive a handbook with rules and guidelines of the school. Students and caregivers are expected to read and follow the procedures and requirements laid out in the handbook.

After taking a break from ballet, a dancer must email us prior to enrolling.

If a student leaves and then re-enrolls, they should expect to be placed in a level below where they were previously as their former class will have progressed through the syllabus.

Yes. Dancers ages 5 and above are invited to audition for performances, including the annual Stillwater Nutcracker over Thanksgiving weekend, and a classical story ballet in the spring. Dancers will receive more information about these opportunities after they enroll.

While students are not required to be part of any performances, participation is typically a highlight for dancers. Performing builds confidence, camaraderie, emotional expression, resilience, and enhances artistic growth.

Yes. We encourage dancers to enroll for the full school year to build on skills and confidence through consistent training. However, we understand that circumstances change, and especially for younger dancers, a break from dancing may be needed.

Our syllabus is based on the Russian Vaganova method, a comprehensive ballet training system that has produced countless world-class dancers.
The syllabus was created by teacher and pedagogue Agrippina Vaganova who took elements from the French and Italian (Cecchetti) techniques to create a methodology that emphasizes precision, artistic expression, and coordination of the whole body. Dancers who train in this method are not only powerful technicians but also expressive artists.

Yes. Our syllabus is based on the Vaganova method of training, and our levels represent important curricular progressions, much like pre-school, elementary school, middle school, and high school. Dancers work to master each level before moving on to the next. Each dancer works through the syllabus at their own pace, which means some dancers may spend longer in some levels than others.
